I have been travelling and taking photographs for 20 years, using photography as a way to look more intently at a place and capture something of its atmosphere. As an outsider, I try to keep hold of a distanced perspective as I’m drawn into the scenes forming and fading around me. The photographs I have collected along the way represent my interactions with the everyday aesthetic of these places.
I look for details that reveal the feel of a place: layers of history in the landscape, insight into the life of the city. I’m drawn to these man-made habitats, and wonder how they’ve developed inexorably over the years, and why. This is my attempt to learn something about the world, how it’s changing and, simply, what it looks like.
After some years based in Moscow and Asia, I am now in Europe working on a project about the EU.
